In Scotland the incidences of wildfires have been accelerating at a considerable rate - quadrupling in a year.
There are many possible protagonists in the continuing destruction. Some may blame our generation and previous ones for their lack of care, or the neglect of those in power who have prioritised personal or political agendas, or irresponsible acts by visitors who have lost their sense of value and respect for the countryside. They are replacing natural beauty with ruin, and are not only putting the environment at risk, but also the safety and well-being of wildlife and people. All this is depriving future generations of the pleasures of enjoying the natural heritage we have.
Although things are currently getting worse, it is not too late. If we all take part and do what we can to support necessary changes we can significantly improve the prospects of the beautiful Scottish landscape and the life within it.
