Modern borders

The borders will be determined by agreement with England initially.  If Scotland were to join the EU, there would need to be borders between Scotland and England.  These can however take many forms as the functions of borders-for example to check eligibility to enter the country, or to work or to allow examination of goods being imported/exported, can be performed in locations relevant to the particular activity and where it is convenient to do so.Therefore it is often not international best practice to conduct these at a station on the physical border between two countries. It is hoped there will be an agreement as there is with Ireland for free movement of people between the countries.'
