The Scottish National Party made big gains across Scotland in the 2019 general election, with former leader Nicola Sturgeon saying the country had sent ‘a clear message on a second independence referendum’. Since then, two things have changed. First, Sturgeon is no longer leader of the party. Second, the SNP have begun to struggle in the polls. The one thing that has remained the same is the looming question of Scotland’s independence, and the level of public support for it.
