“I can't see what you gain now from continuing to be part of this mess,”

“We have continued austerity. The UK Government claims it's not austerity, and it uses this definition which is totally meaningless to people at the sharp end of public service loss and social security loss and all the other problems – huge crises which people are suffering,” Monbiot said.

“The sensible definition of austerity is a decline in public services caused by a shortfall in funding. It's pretty straightforward, isn't it? Well, it's blinkingly obvious that everywhere we are seeing exactly that, a decline in public services caused by a shortfall in funding that continues regardless of government rhetoric.”

He went on: “Now, it's only gonna get worse. I cannot see that, unless Zack Polanski became Prime Minister, maybe things would change, but short of that – certainly under Labour – it's not gonna get any better and I really think, sad as we would be to see you go, I really think Scotland's better off going its own way.”
